The Department of Information Technology, Ministry of Information & Communications in consultation with various Ministries, Departments and Agencies has come up with the standard codes for the use in various e-Governance applications. These standard codes must be followed by all the bodies in the Royal Government of Bhutan so that the systems developed by various Agencies would be compatible to each other and information sharing would be easier. Prior to proposing these standards, we studied various systems in the agencies and we have chosen the standards keeping in mind the factors like scalability and rationale behind the use of that code. We have also endorsed some codes like position codes and National Assembly Constituency Codes which were already in place, for standardization.
These codes must be followed by various agencies under the Government while developing the new e-governance applications. For the systems which are already in place and are not compatible with the standards, a mapping from the old codes to the standardized codes can be done whenever the need arises.
These codes were reviewed by the various agencies on 21st May 2007 and the soft copy of the codes in now available for download here. More codes will be added to the standards as and when the need arises.
